The Ache’s Training Blog

Wanna tackle this year’s Ache Around the Lake 5 Miler? Read tips from the “pro” and the “slow”!

Who Are We?

Ache Around the Lake was created in 2006 by Scarlette Tapp and Katie Malone–both Lake Lanier residents who wanted to share their beautiful (and challenging) training ground with others.

Katie is a professional triathlete and coach who has a lot of experience running hilly E. and W. Lakeshore Drive. When Scarlette teamed up with her to start this race, she not only wanted to organize a race, but wanted to make Ache Around the Lake her first-ever road race. Katie graciously coached her in training for the Ache. Now, Katie shares her professional advice to walkers and runners willing to take on these 5 miles on this blog.

Scarlette remains a committed amateur runner who occasionally ventures into the racing arena just to give herself a goal. Having tackled the Ache as a first-timer herself, she feels qualified to offer tips for conquering ‘the Ache’ from her perspective right here.
